The Exhaustive Guide to Rides at Hollywood Studios

The Exhaustive Guide to Rides at Hollywood Studios

Welcome to the park that hosts my favorite ride – Toy Story Midway Mania! There is a lot to explore at this park, so I have an exhaustive guide to all the rides and attractions, sit back and enjoy the show. If you are looking to get your bearings while you skim the list of attractions be sure to check out Hollywood Studios Map.

Echo Lake

For the First Time in Forever: A “Frozen” Sing-Along Celebration

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 30 Minutes

Who doesn’t know the words to Let it Go? Don’t worry, during this live show, you can sing along to the words displayed for you. Two Arundel history experts will be your guide through this condensed telling of Frozen. All the major hits are included and I dare you not to sing along by the end of the show or leave the theater without a smile on your face. I would save this show for the late afternoon when you could use a rest from the heat in this theater’s cushy seats. Don’t miss this show.

Star Wars: Jedi Training: Trails of the Temple

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 20 Minutes

Do you have a young Jedi who would like to be a part of the show? You must register before the show.

Anyone can watch the show performed in front of the Star Tours ride entrance.

Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 30 Minutes

Ever wonder how the movies film those fabulous stunts? All will be revealed in this action packed show featuring fights, falls and explosions taken from the scenes of the Indiana Jones movies. The covered outdoor theater holds 2000 people. You will get a great view from anywhere. The number of shows per day varies depending on the time of year and the crowd levels, so make sure to check your times guide.

Star Tours

Copyright Disney

  • Height Requirement: 40″
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: Varies

This ride has been updated, to include new scenes from the Star Wars franchise. The scenes can vary in the opening and main destination, creating different experiences for each time you ride. This is a simulator ride and depending on how those effect you, you may get motion sickness. I advise my family members with this problem to close their eyes and get their bearings, but be warned that the ride does get bumpy and some of the scenes will have you racing in tight winding situations. You should definitely ride more than once if the wait time is low.

Grand Avenue

Muppet*Vision 3D

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 25 Minutes

OK, don’t boo me, but this attraction is not exciting if you like thrill rides. The theater is great if you need to cool off and small children love the muppets. The show is a silly 3D film, and usually, the queue doesn’t get too long for this attraction. On the other hand if you are a fan of the muppets, you must see this show.

Commissary Lane

Mickey and Minnie Starring in Red Carpet

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: Varies

This is your chance for a meet and greet with Mickey and Minnie. You will meet them on a set where they are working on their next production. Mickey is dressed as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Fantasia and Minnie is his leading lady dressed in a red carpet gown. This is the picture-perfect setting to get a photo and autograph with our favorite mice!

Meet the Incredibles at Pixar Place

The Edna Mode Experience

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: Varies

Visit the designer and see a gallery of her greatest designs, as well as meet her yourself and get a photo. This small area used to be Pixar Place before Toy Story Land opened. If you are an Incredibles fan, definitely take a look around this small area, which does have cute photo opportunities and sells the best snack in the park – Num Num Cookies.

Toy Story Land

Slinky Dog Dash

The Exhaustive Guide to Rides at Hollywood Studios 14

  • Height Requirement: 38″
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Early Morning or Evening
  • Length: Varies

Who doesn’t want to ride a Slinky Dog rollercoaster? This is a great starter coaster for your little ones. You can view the entire ride before you decide if you are brave enough to give it a try! This is definitely a ride that you need a fast pass for, the lines get long as soon as the park opens. During summer months, I wouldn’t make the fast pass for late afternoon, as we get daily showers usually sometime between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm, and the entire ride is outdoors. Also, the majority of the queue is outside in unshaded areas. Give it at least one try, you’ll be back for more. For our full review of Toy Story Land see our article.

Alien Swirling Saucers

The Exhaustive Guide to Rides at Hollywood Studios 15

  • Height Requirement: 32″
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: Varies

OK, confession, I love big roller coasters but this type of ride sends me spinning – literally. The good news is the ride is short and you can slow some of the spin yourself, but you will be spinned. There are two side by side sets of alien cars. Since this ride usually just attracts small children the wait times are way less than Slinky Dog and Toy Story.

Toy Story Mania

The Exhaustive Guide to Rides at Hollywood Studios 16

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Early Morning or Evening
  • Length: Varies

We finally made it to my favorite ride! My family thinks I’m nuts, because if you let me, I would just keep getting back in line to ride over and over again. Before Slinky Dog Dash opened, this ride always had the longest wait time in the park. It was also a hard fastpass to get, but I find that it is easier now that Toy Story Land and Star Wars Galaxy Edge is open.  This a game that is a ride, a ride that’s a game! Another fun aspect of this ride is the queue, don’t miss seeing all the classic games surround you, even on the ceiling. Also, Mr. Potato Head has returned to the queue to help you pass your time while waiting and get a picture with him. See our article on tips to improve your score on this don’t miss ride that the whole family can play and enjoy.

Animation Courtyard

Walt Disney Presents

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: Walk through

Most people walk right by this attraction. Take the opportunity to see Walt’s vision and actual models from some of your favorite attractions. Parts of this attraction are continually changing to give you updates and information on Disney projects in the works for all around the world. This attraction also features a sneak peak at on upcoming Disney movie.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 17 Minutes

This show uses puppets and live actors to give us a condensed story of the Little Mermaid. The music is beautiful and I enjoy the different presentation. I recommend an afternoon viewing in this air conditioned theater, to take a much needed break from all the action of the park. I think you will agree that this attraction has beautiful music that will remind you why we loved this movie.

Star Wars Launch Bay

Star Wars launch bay hollywood studios

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: Varies

Do you want a Star Wars meet and greet without going into Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge? This is the place. Currently, there is BB-8, Chewbacca and Darth Vader. Also, we can’t miss the shopping opportunity and there is even a short film giving details from the Star Wars universe. Inside the Star Wars Launch Bay attraction, there is plenty of space to explore the different characters and get your first taste of Star Wars at Hollywood Studios. Warning, there are no rides in this area and it is not located next to Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, you will find it between The Little Mermaid attraction and Disney Junior Dance Party.

Disney Junior Dance Party

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 25 minutes

Do you have Disney Junior fans in your party? Well they won’t want to miss this dance party with all their favorite characters! I am always surprised with the energy that the smallest guests have – they can tour the park and still manage to dance up a storm at this party! Also some of the most popular characters will be available outside of the attraction for you to get a photo with them. Make sure to check the times guide for both the Dance Party and the character Meet and Greets.

Sunset Boulevard

Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 30 Minutes

Don’t miss this live show which features all your favorite characters and music from this live show. Check your times guide for the daily schedule and try for a later afternoon time to enjoy the chance to sit and take a break.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith

rockin roller coaster

  • Height Requirement: 48″
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: Varies

Okay, finally a real roller coaster! And better yet, Aerosmith music is the backdrop for the entire ride! I love this ride, but beware there is a full inversion and several cork screws all started off with a launch where your limo will go zero to 60 in less than 3 seconds, this ride is not for the faint of heart. If you like roller coasters this one is not to be missed. There is a single rider line but beware, many riders use it to avoid the long wait times, so it might not be much faster than the posted wait time.

Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 10 Minutes

Located behind Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is a theater with a large wrap around screen. An animatronic version of Lightning McQueen is there to give all your Cars fans a show. After the show, in the courtyard, there is a meet and greet.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

The Exhaustive Guide to Rides at Hollywood Studios 17

  • Height Requirement: 40″
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: Varies

This ride will test your courage – the drop sequence is randomly picked by the computer for each ride, so you won’t know how many times you will be dropped. Did I say dropped? It should be said “pulled down”, you will actually be lifted from your seat by it, but don’t worry, they will get a picture of you. After each drop, you will be pulled up to some level, so each subsequent drop and rise are from different levels. At some point the exterior doors will open and you will have a view out over the park! I must admit that I prefer the Disneyland California Adventure version which is themed to Guardians of the Galaxy.

Fantasmic!

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Check Times Guide
  • Length: 30 Minutes

This show has some of everything Disney has to offer all packed into one show. There are characters, live actors, water effects,  lasers, music, fireworks and pyrotechnics. Depending on the season, there might only be one show per night and it can fill up fast, so you should plan on arriving at least an half hour early.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Millennium Falcon

The Exhaustive Guide to Rides at Hollywood Studios 18

  • Height Requirement: 38″
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 5 Minutes

Have you ever dreamed of flying the fast piece of junk in the universe, well you can do it here. You will be in groups of six to a ship for your flight. I highly recommend that you be one of the two pilots if you can, as this is by far the best ride experience. For more of our review of the ride see our article.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

The Exhaustive Guide to Rides at Hollywood Studios 19

  • Height Requirement: 40″
