It’s a ride that’s a game, it’s a game that’s a ride! Step right up and play Midway Mania, its insania. Raise of hands if you sung that sentence when you read it 🙌. If you did then you probably know everything I am already going to say since you have spent countless hours listening to Mr. Potato Head in the line of Toy Story Midway Mania. This ride is located in the brand new Toy Story Land in Hollywood Studios
For those who have never had the joy of riding Toy Story Midway Mania let me go into a bit more detail for you. It’s a similar concept to that of Buzz’s Space Ranger Spin Over in the Magic Kingdom. The ten-minute long ride takes you through a series of midway games. There are five games in total you will play during Toy Story Midway Mania. Each game is a little different and has its own strategy.
- Hamm & Eggs (egg throw game)
- Bo Peep’s Baaa-loon Pop (dart game)
- Green Army Men Shoot Camp (baseball throw/plate breaking)
- Buzz Lightyear’s Flying Tossers (ring toss)
- Woody’s Rootin’ Shootin’ Gallery (suction cup shooting game)
So the downside to this loved attractions is it has a relatively low capacity and therefore creates some pretty crazy lines. Even with the addition of a new ride track increasing capacity you still will face long waits here. The best way we have found to get around the wait is to be one of the first at park open and rush to the attraction. Another alternative is to obtain a FastPass+ reservation for Toy Story Mania, but we know that’s easier said than done!
Toy Story Midway Mania Strategies
Teamwork Makes the Dreamwork – in true Disney fashion working together will help you win. Join forces with the person you are seated next to will actually get you a higher score.
Fire Power – The more you shoot the better your odds. So practice that trigger finger before you head to the midway game. On your scorecard in front of you will see an accuracy score but don’t let it fool you. The score means absolutely nothing and has no effect on your total score. My mom can routinely score 100,000 points more than my father with a lower accuracy!
Hamm and Eggs is the first midway game you will encounter. The trick here is to simply shoot the fox that is on top of the hen-house and then shoot the chickens that exit the hen-house. While waiting for the chickens to appear, shoot down the pigs over the top of the scene and it will reveal a cat. The more times you reveal the cat, the more points it will be worth. Keep repeating that and you will be on the path to success.
During Rex and Trixie’s Dino Darts you are going to need your partner. The two of you should focus on shooting the lava coming out of the volcano. Once you clear all the lava, balloons will erupt from the volcano and you can both go to town. Then you both need to focus on the meteors at the top, clear them both and you will get high point balloons streaming for you to shoot!
This ain’t your mama’s kitchen! Break those plates! In the Green Army Men scene, you’re going to need to skill to pull off this secret. There are two plates thrown up in the air at the same time on either side of the scene. Both of you need to hit both plates to unlock the bonus points. Beware an army tank will appear and throw the plates at you! I concentrate on getting as many of the 2000 point plates as possible.
The best trick for Buzz Lightyear’s Flying Tossers is to work with the person sitting next to you to shoot your rings at all of the aliens in the spaceship so that they are all gone before they can appear again. If you can accomplish this, the spaceship will lift and a gigoboot will appear – all you have to do is throw the rings in his big mouth to score. Each time he opens his mouth, the rings will be worth more!
Team work is need for the last game, Rootin Shootin, hit all the bullseyes to unlock the targets. Now you and your partner need to clear them all before time runs out and then all of the targets will reappear with 2000 point values each! You can really raise your score on this game!
Remember with all the games – practice makes perfect! If the wait time is less than 30 minutes you should definitely play again!
