Are you one of the many that are eager to become a Disney World Annual Passholder once again? This is a popular question we get asked as many want to become a Disney World Annual Passholder but are unable to currently buy a pass. While there has been no official word from Disney we are going to deep dive into when Annual Passes will be available again at Disney World.

Disney World Annual Pass Availability

If you hadn’t heard when Disney world reopened after being closed for several months due to the global health crisis they didn’t allow for any new sales of Annual Passes. While much of Walt Disney World has returned to normal, we still cannot purchase new Annual Passes.

But wait, I totally heard of people getting Annual Passes in the last two years. Yes, that’s true…sort of.  During the first 18 months after reopening those who had an Annual Pass that had expired or been canceled previously could get a new pass on a case-by-case basis. The trick seemed to be if you arrived in person they would convert your ticket to an Annual Pass. Most who called were denied an Annual Pass. The other exception is that kids of passholders who turned three since the park closed could get a pass since they now required paid admission to enter the park.

In September 2021, Disney World resumed Annual Pass sales with a whole new tier system and a large price hike.

What is a Disney World Annual Pass?

An Annual Pass at Disney World allows you entry into Disney World theme parks. How often? Well, that entirely depends on what tier Annual Pass you decide to buy. It can be as restrictive as just weekdays all the way up to the top tier of no blackout dates.

One of the great things I found about being an Annual Passholder is I am at Disney a lot more. Of course, it really helps out these days that I live right next to the vacation kingdom, but I will say that even prior to moving to Orlando I was an annual Passholder and I still managed to pull off two to three trips a year. Your Annual pass pays off sometimes after your first trip. The Annual Pass eliminates a big expense, park tickets, and parking, and it includes park hoppers, so this makes the second trip in the same year following the pass purchase much less expensive

What are the New Tiers of Annual Passes?

If you are one of those people who can’t keep tall, grande, and venti sizes straight at Starbucks because they should just be small, medium, and large, then pay close attention! Disney had a little fun with the new names, though, we’re not entirely sure what the rhyme or reason was behind them. There are currently four tiers of Disney World Annual Passes and only one of them is available to those who are not a Florida resident. Currently, the Pixie Dust Pass is currently the only Annual Pass available to purchase.

All Annual Passes can be plussed up with extras. You can add PhotoPass for $99, or the Waterpark and Sports options that gives you access to not only the water parks, but also the miniature golf and regular golf course for only $99.

When Will Disney Sell Annual Passes Again?

In typical Disney fashion, they are keeping all of their cards close to the vest, so when they do say something we hang on every word. Disney has said that the park reservation system is here to stay, and that they are using it to monitor park attendance.

“…sometime in 2022.”

This is what we know from Disney. There is speculation as to exactly when, but here we are in the last half of the year and still no word! Crowds have been at an all time high in a time while Cast Member shortages also have been at an all time high. We suspect that once employment is balanced, Disney will open sales again.

Oops! Annual Pass Sales Mistakenly Sold for a day in June!

Thanks to a website glitch, certain Annual Passes were available for sale for a whopping 30 minutes before Disney took notice and took it down! This happened on June 28th, and we haven’t been able to purchase anything but the Pixie Pass since.

Let us know in the comments below when you think Disney World will start selling annual passes again.

Come on Disney…we’re waiting to give you $$$ for annual passes that we’ll probably only be able to use 5 or six trips, but we also stay at the Disney Resorts, eat at the Disney Restaurants, shop at the parks and Disney Springs!
