Best Snacks in Animal Kingdom… and One That Divides Us All

Best Snacks in Animal Kingdom… and One That Divides Us All

Everyone always thinks of EPCOT when they think of snacking around the world, but seriously, Animal Kingdom is stepping up its snack game and is a solid competitor. While this list is focused all on the Best Snacks in Animal Kingdom, I know the next time my girlfriends want to have a “drink around the world day”, we are going to Disney’s Animal Kingdom over EPCOT. I love EPCOT but Animal Kingdom has it beat with rides, shows, and vibe. With the exception of the rope drop crowds racing to get to Flight of Passage in Pandora, Animal Kingdom has a very chill vibe.

Street Corn Tacos… $9.99

The Smiling Crocodile

Have you ever met someone who is like, “no thanks, I don’t like tacos”? Everyone likes tacos. Located in Discovery Island, this cart features Pulled Pork Street Tacos (this park has an obsession with pulled pork) Chicken Street Tacos, and Street Corn Tacos.

Technically these aren’t snacks, but they are available at snack-style shack, so BOOM, I consider them a snack. The Street Corn Tacos are the best because they are more unique and combine two different snacks into one: Street Tacos and Street Corn.

They will come with two tacos containing black beans, roasted corn, poblano peppers, and red onion. The tacos are topped with pico de gallo, lime crema, and cotija cheese. Bonus - they also come with a side of chips and salsa. Pretty great deal if you ask me!

Mr. Kamal’s Seasoned French Fries…$5.99

Mr. Kamal’s

As you’re making your way through Asia, you may just be jonesing for a nice salty snack that isn’t too crazy. While Mr. Kamal’s Seasoned Fries are simple, what makes them fun are the unique dipping sauces.

Your order of fries will come with either Curried Honey Mustard or Korean Chili Ketchup. Be wild. You’re on vacation. Get both! Don’t worry: if you’re like me and only adventurous in theory, they will also have good old-fashioned American ketchup available as well.

Shakin Jamaican Cold Brew with Shot of Bailey’s Irish Cream…$12.99

Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Company - All Animal Kingdom locations

You may not consider coffee a snack, but to me, it can be configured to fit with any meal or time of day. Make it a “mommy coffee” (containing alcohol), and it is a treat! Everyone knows about Joffrey’s who goes to Walt Disney World. There is a little bit of a rivalry between Joffrey’s and Starbucks, and serious coffee drinkers can be very loyal.

You choose you, boo boo, but let me tell you - Joffrey’s will ALWAYS have a shorter line, and in Animal Kingdom you can add alcohol to any drink. You can choose Irish cream, Irish whiskey, vodka, or coffee liqueur. You got up early to see the first safari and ride Expedition Everest before the crowds arrived. You deserve to be cooled, caffeinated, and buzzed.

Colossal Pretzel

Pongu Pongu

Best Snacks in Animal Kingdom… and One That Divides Us All 2

You can't go wrong with a giant soft pretzel. This beauty can be found over at Pongu Pongu in Animal Kingdom. What makes this pretzel really special though is the beer cheese sauce it really makes the whole thing.

Pulled Pork Jelly Donut Sandwich & Baked Macaroni & Cheese with Pulled Pork…$6.99 and $6.79

Eight Spoon Cafe

Remember when I said that Animal Kingdom is obsessed with pulled pork? This isn’t even all of it! They will put it on everything! (Hey Flame Tree Barbeque - bring back the Pulled Pork French Fries with Cheese!) Since I couldn’t choose between these two snacks and they are available at the same cart, they shall share second place for you to try both on your next trip and decide.

Let’s start with the first of the second-place snacks: The Pulled Pork Jelly Donut Sandwich. Yes, that is a thing. A very good thing! This is sweet, salty, vinegary, and all the things I didn’t think I needed. They take a glazed jelly yeast donut cut in half and stuffed with pulled pork and a fresh slaw.

I would recommend asking for extra slaw because as you eat it, the slaw falls out and you really need that extra bite of crunch and freshness with this snack. While this snack may leave you feeling a smidge guilty, just remind yourself that each Disney day has you walking about 10 miles!

The Baked Macaroni & Cheese with Pulled Pork is a delicious and simple snack. Big noodles covered in salty cheese and sweet and salty pork. You can’t go wrong with comfort food! My tip: ask if you can get some extra barbeque sauce to add a little moisture to the whole dish. While I love this mac, you will NEED a drink with it because it is a little heavy.

Side note: I can’t help but notice how many different noodle options there are around Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Do we need a Noodle Throwdown??

Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich…$6.99

Dino-Bite Snacks

Best Snacks in Animal Kingdom… and One That Divides Us All 3

Two giant fresh cookies sandwiching ice cream and rolled in sprinkles… How would this NOT be number one!?!? What makes this extra fun are the seasonally themed cookie sandwiches offered throughout the year. Currently, they are featuring a 50th Anniversary themed cookie sandwich, which is two double chocolate cookies, your choice of ice cream, chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry, and rolled-in sprinkles.

It may seem silly, but that roll through sprinkles is key! That extra crunch is just satisfying. Some of the seasonal offerings in the past have been Strawberry Shortcake Crunch, Peppermint Chocolate, and Pumpkin. Sometimes simple and classic really is best.

Pro Tip: Win the mom of the year award by grabbing a few of these and walking them over to the Kite Tails show. While sitting and waiting for it to start in the hot sun, your kids will be happy with some delicious ice cream. Beware - you will need napkins. All the napkins. What’s a little stickiness among friends, right?

The Snack That Divides Us All…

Best Snacks in Animal Kingdom… and One That Divides Us All 5

Listen, this snack would be my own personal number one on this list, but I couldn’t do it. Talking with a lot of people about this snack, they either love it or think it’s grotesque. Seriously, there is no middle ground. I’m talking about the Pineapple Lumpia at Pongu Pongu over in Pandora.

This treat is two lumpia rolls filled with sweet cream cheese and pineapple served up warm. I take a bite and think it is warm and creamy deliciousness. While on a girl’s day with my bestie, she took a bite and referred to it as “hot snot”. I seriously questioned our friendship at that moment, until I realized then that I got to eat her half…
