First haircuts are such a special moment for children and more so for the parents. When both of my boys got their first haircuts I was an emotional wreck, it was such a big moment! First haircuts mean you no longer have a baby, but a toddler or growing child that no longer has baby hair (insert tears).
As locals and Annual Passholders, we get the honor of strolling down Main Street USA any time we want which is truly a blessing. We take our Main Street strolls at the Magic Kingdom monthly and make very special strolls while celebrating birthdays and monumental moments like first haircuts! A first haircut at Magic Kingdom’s Harmony Barber Shop is one of those magical moments on Main Street USA that you will never forget and cherish forever.
Both of my boys experienced their first haircuts at Disney World’s Harmony Barber Shop and it is one of my most favorite magical Disney moments ever! I balled my eyes out both times because it meant my babies were no longer babies and I felt overwhelmed by the magic we all got to experience during their first haircuts.
The entire experience from beginning to end is truly as magical as you’d expect it to be. Here’s what you get with a first haircut at Disney’s Harmony Barbershop:
- First Hair Cut Certificate with baby Mickey and Minnie Mouse on the certificate
- A piece of first hair cut hair in a keepsake pouch
- First Hair Cut Mickey Ears
- No rush, all the time you want to take photos and get the perfect first haircut
- Magical cast members that make sure the kids are happy using bubbles and popular Disney toys to distract and entertain
- Pixie dust (glitter) to finish off the haircut
I love how the Harmony Barbershop cast members make you feel welcome and not rushed even with a line out the door. My first son and oldest cried during his hair cut and they were fantastic at offering toys, bubbles and all sorts of sweet conversations to get him through his hair cut. My baby, youngest son didn’t cry and enjoyed the attention the hairdresser gave him. Two different experiences but both magical!
How to Get your Baby’s First Haircut at Harmony Barber Shop
While reservations aren’t required I highly recommend making them! If you don’t make a reservation you’ll want to enter the theme park at opening and run over to get your name on the list. We made reservations close to a month out due to no openings, they stay that busy and that booked out.
We have done both a walk-in and reservations once for a regular hair cut, not the first hair cut special, and we were given an 11 am spot. We did this by going right at 8 am to get our name on the list. It is possible to get on the list for that day but the “open spot” go so quickly you’ll have to be there before 9 am to get a spot that day so plan accordingly.
Anticipate spending $25 not including a tip on first haircuts for children, which is a great deal for a haircut, especially in the Magic Kingdom! We continue to bring our boys there for haircuts as often as possible because they now request the experience and I love that.

While this experience was closed for a couple of years it reopened again on June 28, 2022. As we said earlier, reservations are a must and can be made by calling (407) WDW-PLAY or (407) 939-7529. A limited number of walk-in appointments are available on a first-come, first-serve basis each day. Unfortunately, for those who have Extra Magic Hours Harmony Barbershop does not open early or later for it. A couple more points to note:
- There is a $10 fee for a no-show or if you cancel within a day of your appointment.
- Water may be sprayed on hair during a haircut.
- A Disney World photographer can take photographs of your child having their first haircut. Just ask at the time of making the appointment.
- There is no shampooing, so make sure that the hair is clean.
- The barbershop is small with only three chairs.
- Be aware that tips can only be in cash.
- Theme park admission is required in order to visit Harmony Barber Shop.
