The Behind the Seeds Tour takes you backstage at Disney to see the greenhouses of the Living with the Land attraction. Bottom line, if you love Living with the Land like me this is a tour for you! If you want some more good news this is one the cheapest backstage tours Disney World offers. This one-hour tour takes you to the fish farm and the four greenhouses that make up The Land Pavilion. We also think this is a perfect fit for anyone with an interest in gardening or natural sciences.
How to Book the Behind the Seeds Tour
I recommend just winging it personally. This tour is offered many times throughout the day, typically 9 times to be exact. The times range from
There is a desk where you can book the tour right outside the exit of Living with the Land. The desk used to be by the entrance of Soarin but it been moved to be more convenient, right outside of its attraction exit. If you want to schedule everything in advance of your trip you can also book by phone. Just as with any other Disney World tour you call (407) WDW-TOUR.
When booking don’t forget to use your discounts! There is a 15% discount available to Annual Passholders, Disney Visa Cardmembers, Disney Vacation Club Members, AAA Diamond Club Members, active and retired military and defense employees who have a military ID.
Inside a Behind the Seeds Tour
First off you need to make sure you get to the check-in desk 15 minutes before your tour is scheduled to begin. This is where you will get your name tags that you will need to fill out and wear for your tour. The check-in desk is the same spot where you can buy tickets, right outside the exit for Living with the Land.
Your tour guide will come out to this area to get you and take you backstage. Once backstage you will get a brief intro and then be mic’d up for the tour. Oh and let’s not forget those ever fun introductions of your name and where you are from.
Okay so first up is what I consider the worst part of the tour, bugs! Yup the tanks pictured above are the bug farm they have running for various studies. If you are squeamish with bugs like me don’t worry all the bugs are contained in these boxes. Except of course for the lovely cups of bugs, they pass this around which are also closed. I opted to stand far away and not hold the cup-o-bug and was just fine.
We had to watch a couple of really gross videos of bugs eating things and then it was time to get on to the good stuff, the greenhouses! This is why you booked the tour right? First up we take a look at where all those Mickey’s Mini Gardens are grown. We heard this is where all the interns have the honors of flexing their greenhouse knowledge.
As you walk through the areas note that they are growing food that they serve in restaurants around Disney World. It just adds to the extra cool factor. From here they are going to walk through all the different types of growing systems they have. You will even get a small food sample too! We got to eat some freshly cut cucumbers. It really beats what you get in the grocery store.
They really take the time to cover Disney’s forward thinking methods of growing. These are the exact same systems that they show off at the Living with the Land attraction. I am still plotting how to implement our own garden in the backyard with all the good tidbits we learned.
During the tour, you will also get to venture inside the fish farm. This is where you can feed the fish if you like. Watch out though the fish go wild and you may get wet!

I have been visiting the parks annually since my parents first brought me at just a year old. Recently I was able to fulfill my life long dream of being a Florida local and moved from the wintery Northeast to the sunshine and fun of central Florida. Now I am hoping to share my Disney knowledge with you so you can have the best vacation possible!
