The Exhaustive Guide to Magic Kingdom Rides

The Exhaustive Guide to Magic Kingdom Rides

One of the great things about the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World is there are so many options and things to do at the park. In fact, some might say that there are so many options to pick from that they get overwhelmed. Well, no worries we are here to help you out with a guide to the Magic Kingdom rides. Our guide goes land by land at the Magic Kingdom and covers all the rides.

Tomorrowland Magic Kingdom Rides

Astro Orbiter

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Early morning or with a Fastpass
  • Length: 1 1/2 minute

This has to be the most uncomfortable I have ever been on a Disney ride. It is a spinner ride much like Dumbo that sits atop the loading area for the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. What sets it apart from Dumbo? It’s much higher up in the air and goes faster, this is definitely not one for little kids. Beware, the wait times get long fast due to the rides low capacity.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Morning, very end of the day, or with a Fastpass
  • Length: 4 1/2 minutes

Test out if you are Galatic Hero material on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. This is when you max out the score and get a 999,999 in points. This slow-moving shooting game sends you off after Zurg to stop his evil planet takeover ways. Aim for the Z’s and rack up points. Fun for the whole family.

Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 15 minutes

Get ready to laugh like you mean it because the characters from Monsters Inc. are depending on you! Various characters from Monstropolis are here to entertain and make you laugh in this indoor sit-down comedy show. The whole show is hosted by your favorite guy, Mike Wazowski, from Monsters Inc. You see after the movie Monsters Inc. the Monster World moved from being powered on human screams to instead human laughter! This show is interactive and makes it so two shows are never quite the same. A great place to take a break on a hot day.

Space Mountain

The Exhaustive Guide to Magic Kingdom Rides 13

  • Height Requirement: 44 inches
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Beginning of the day or with a Fastpass
  • Length: 10 minutes

This indoor roller coaster will launch you off into space. The coaster twists and turns and has sudden drops but does not go upside down. The whole ride is completely in the dark and paired with starry-o-phonic sound. If you are stuck waiting in line there are some pretty cool video games that you can jump in and play.

Tomorrowland Speedway

  • Height Requirement: 32 inches
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Beginning of the day or with a Fastpass
  • Length: 4 minutes

Get a chance to take the wheel and drive around Tomorrowland. This ride is a like a slow down go-cart with an annoying middle rail that despite years of seasoned driving you still hit. Kids who are not yet of driving age often want to ride this. Otherwise, the gas fumes and lousy cars make it a pass for us.

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover

The Exhaustive Guide to Magic Kingdom Rides 14

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 10 minutes

Take a ride around the top of Tomorrowland getting a grand tour of all there is to do. I personally love doing this just about every trip, it’s a great way to chill and relax. Even though this is an outdoor attraction I still find I can cool off with the nice breeze.

Walt Disney’s Carousel Of Progress

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 21 minutes

This is a true Disney OG ride. This ride dates all the way back to an attraction that Walt Disney debuted at the 1964 World’s Fair. This rotating show takes you along with the narrator, John, and his family through the decades of progress. Each stop through time showcases the progress or technological improvements of that era. It’s a great reminder of just how much things have changed over the years. Be warned that this ride shows its age and comes off as very dated.

Fantasyland Magic Kingdom Rides

If you always dreamed of being a princess as a kid Fantasyland is going to be your jam. It’s Disney World’s princess headquarters.

The Barnstormer

  • Height Requirement: 35 inches
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Morning or with Fastpass
  • Length: 1 1/2 minutes

Flying with Goofy is the perfect starter coaster for kids. I remember when my mom first took me on this ride. Of course, much to her dismay, my love of coasters did not grow as she hoped after riding this. If you aren’t trying to introduce a little one to a coaster this ride may be best left skipped as it’s extremely short and the lines can grow quite long on this one.

Dumbo The Flying Elephant

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Morning or with Fastpass
  • Length: 1 1/2 minutes

Enjoy the experience of dueling Dumbos at the Magic Kingdom. When this ride received an overhaul the Imagineers really put a lot of thought into this ride. The waits aren’t as bad for Dumbo as you now have a giant indoor playground to hang out in before it’s time for you to ride. That is of course if you didn’t book a Fastpass. Dueling Dumbos means that there is actually two sets of this flying, spinning attraction.

Enchanted Tales With Belle

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Early morning, late evening or with Fastpass
  • Length: 20 minutes

Visit Maurice’s cottage and see Belle herself! This show has amazing effects. You will get a chance to help Belle and some other characters from Beauty and the Beast in retelling their story.

“it’s a small world”

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Early morning or with Fastpass
  • Length: 14 minutes

Are you already singing along to this earworm? It’s a small, small world after all! Well if you are not singing then I can say for certain you haven’t been on this ride enough. It’s a slow-moving boat ride that takes you all around the world. The different countries are represented with tiny dolls all singing “it’s a small world” in their respective languages. Everyone can ride this and it is a great way to cool off on hot Florida days due to the length of the ride.

Mad Tea Party

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Morning or with Fastpass
  • Length: 1 1/2 minutes

Ready for a spin? Straight from Alice in Wonderland, this outdoor attraction is spinning teacups that you board and then spin with other teacups. Bottom line it’s a lot of spinning, some of which you can control and not the best pick if you easily get dizzy. This remains a popular Disney attraction although there isn’t much to it.

The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Early morning, before park close, or later with Fastpass
  • Length: 4 minutes

This is a great dark ride for Pooh bear fans and little ones. Hop aboard a hunny pot and follow along with Pooh as you go through classic scenes from the old movies. Waiting in line for this attraction is long but pretty fun as it has so many interactive queue elements. You can play in Rabbits garden or draw in never-ending honey. Everyone in the family can ride this.

Mickey’s PhilharMagic

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 12 minutes

This 3D show takes you through classic Disney animated movies all with the leadership of Mickey Mouse. Of course, a jealous Donald Duck may have caused a bit of a mess. Run along on Donald’s quest to get Mickey’s sorcerers hat. This is a great way to cool off in the hot summer months. I would recommend not ever using up a Fastpass on this attraction as it rarely ever sees a long line.

Peter Pan’s Flight

Peter Pans Flight

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Park open or with Fastpass
  • Length: 2 minutes

Fly away through the story of Peter Pan thanks to the help of Tinkerbell. With a little pixie dust, your boat will soar in this dark ride. Just watch out for Captain Hook as he is on a mission to get Peter Pan. This iconic, Disney classic attraction gets some extremely long lines. So if you opt not to use a Fastpass on this ride you may not want to wait in the stand by line.

Prince Charming Regal Carousel

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 2 minutes

This is your standard childhood classic carousel, of course, the difference is this is paired with classic Disney tunes. You know Walt himself was inspired to first build Disneyland while he was watching his daughters ride a carousel in Griffith Park. I think it is because of this that all the Disney parks around the world have a carousel. Bonus Tip: If you want to ride on Cinderella’s horse be sure to find the one with a gold ribbon on its tail.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

The Exhaustive Guide to Magic Kingdom Rides 15

  • Height Requirement: 38 inches
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: At open, just before park close, or with Fastpass
  • Length: 3 minutes

Hiiiiiiii Hooooooooo!!! It’s off to work we go, with the seven dwarfs from Snow White that is. This coaster is a great beginners coaster perfectly suitable for the kids that meet the height requirement. You can see the only “big” drops from outside the attraction if you are nervous about it. Also, this newest coaster at Magic Kingdom has a twist, or should I say swing to it. Check out how the individual cars swing or rock from side to side! I like that despite being a kids coaster it still has the pep and fun of Big Thunder Mountain. This ride is wildly popular and it’s best if you can to grab a Fastpass for it as wait times frequently exceed two hours.

Under The Sea, Journey Of The Little Mermaid

The Exhaustive Guide to Magic Kingdom Rides 16

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Beginning or end of day
  • Length: 7 minutes

This slow-moving Disney dark ride takes you through the whole story of the Little Mermaid in just seven minutes. Filled with bright color and endless animatronics this is the perfect ride for young ones. Although, I will say Ursula makes an appearance in this ride and could be frightening for some little ones. Also, the queue is home to a special hidden Mickey that can only be seen once a year. You will be singing all of this movie’s great music for the rest of the day.

Liberty Square Rides

The Hall Of Presidents

  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 25 minutes

The Muppets Present Great Moments in American History

Muppets Magic Kingdom

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 11 minutes

Do the muppets ever put on a bad show? This show happens directly outside the Hall of Presidents and is a fun retelling of various events in American history. Currently, there are actually two different shows that play randomly. One is on the Declaration of Independence and the second is about Paul Revere.

Liberty Square Riverboat

  • Height Requirement: None
  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 17 minutes

This is a half-mile scenic ride on a steam-powered paddler wheeler. The ride is narrated by Mark Twain and your travels will take you past some of your favorite rides. This a great family ride especially when it is busy in the park.

Frontierland Magic Kingdom Rides

When stopping in Frontierland it’s like stepping in the olden days wild, wild west.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

  • Height Requirement: 40 inches
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Morning or with Fastpass
  • Length: 7 minutes

This outdoor roller coaster is the wildest ride in the wilderness, so be sure to hang on to those hats and glasses. Actually, I recommend removing them before you take off on this ride.  I like that this is a great starter coaster after you accomplish the Barnstormer in Fantasyland this is a great next stop. It twists and turns but it doesn’t have any crazy big drops. Big Thunder Mountain coaster is a runaway mine train that zips through an old coal mine. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled because there are lots of fun nuggets while you wait in the queue. You can even make some explosion go off on the people who are riding.

Country Bear Jamboree

Country Bear Jamboree

This log ride will have you getting wet as you follow Briar Rabbit through the briar patch. If you don’t like drops this isn’t your ride as there are five of them. This includes that giant drop you spot people screaming down before you enter the queue. Inside the mountain, you will find loads of animatronics all themed after characters from Song of South movie. Of course, this is also the spot you will hear the song, zip a dee do dah, zip a dee day!

Tom Sawyer Island

  • Height Requirement: No
  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: Varies

You will actually have to journey by log raft across the Rivers of America to get to Tom Sawyer’s Island. Once you are on the island you are free to discover an idyllic place influenced by the works of Mark Twain. Arrive at Tom’s Landing and embark on a self-guided expedition into the heart of early America.

Adventureland Rides

Jungle Cruise

The Exhaustive Guide to Magic Kingdom Rides 17

  • Height Requirement: No
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Before Lunch or with Fastpass
  • Length: 8 minutes

If you love bad jokes you are in for a treat on this jungle boat ride. The slow-moving boat ride features your skipper who is there to inform and entertain you along your journey and be your swimming instructor if you don’t laugh. This is one of my personal favorites just to hear the jokes and take a nice relaxing ride with the whole family.

The Magic Carpets Of Aladdin

  • Height Requirement: No
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 1 1/2 minutes

There isn’t too much excitement on this carpet ride, I doubt you will be singing a whole new world. It’s exactly the same deal as Dumbo over in Fantasyland just this one has you boarding carpets instead of Dumbo. It’s a great one for little kids, just watch out for those spitting camels.

Pirates Of The Caribbean

New Pirates Redhead

  • Height Requirement: No
  • FP+: Yes
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 7 1/2 minutes

Aye, tales there be aplenty on the Pirates of the Caribbean. This slowing moving boat ride does have one surprising drop at the beginning other than that the rest is pretty tame. We will warn you increasing lately we have found that drop gets us pretty wet, it has something to do with the new boats. If you have a seen the movie series under the same title you will notice some familiar faces. The whole family can enjoy this ride.

Swiss Family Treehouse

  • Height Requirement: No
  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: Varies

Ever wanted to walk through a full-scale tree house?! Well at the Magic Kingdom you can walk through the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. The same one from the book and movie of eons ago. Most little ones are probably going to have no clue but will still be interested regardless. It does add a lot of extra steps and stairs to your day. I recommend avoiding this if you are already tired out.

Enchanted Tiki Room

Enchanted Tiki Room

  • Height Requirement: No
  • FP+: No
  • Best Time: Anytime
  • Length: 15 1/2 minutes

This is the spot where the birds sing words and the flowers croon! This relaxing indoor show will have you singing along with the animatronics of the Enchanted Tiki Room. Take a grand tour around the Magic Kingdom on a real-life steam engine train. The train makes three stops, Main Street USA, Frontierland, and Fantasyland Station. This quaint ride around the park is narrated and a great way to get the lay of the land around the Magic Kingdom. We also like hopping on the train if we enter the park right before the afternoon parade as it allows us to skip the crowds and get on an attraction faster!
