Are your favorite Disney characters the mischievous kind? If so, you will want to consider attending a special separately ticketed event at the Magic Kingdom called Villains After Hours.
What is the Villains After Hours Event?
Villains After Hours is a separately ticketed event on select nights at the Magic Kingdom. Once the event starts, the lighting and music change throughout the park to a curious blend of moody rock with a slightly spooky edge. In addition to the overall vibe, there is special entertainment, food, and merchandise. Don't forget, you can dress up as your favorite villain too. I choose to rock my favorite Evil Queen tee shirt. The highlight, in my opinion, is Maleficent at Night cruising down the parade route. I was intrigued by her size and the fire! Not every attraction will be available during this event, but I didn't have enough time to ride everything that was open anyways. I made sure to head straight to the two attractions that are modified for this event only: Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean. Since the rides are special beware the lines were long for these two rides. Space Mountain had special lighting and music and the Pirates of the Caribbean had live performers at various parts of the queue and ride.
In addition to the rides, there is a special stage show Villains Unite the Night. In between shows, there is a DJ dance party in front of Cinderella's Castle and the lighting on the Castle adds to the mood. You are going to have to plan your priorities in order to fit in everything you want to do in this three-hour event. Another important consideration is that this event starts at 9:00 pm or 10:00 pm and you will have to stay awake late to enjoy the entire party. I used the party as a way to get more rides in during a very busy time of year at the Magic Kingdom and also avoid the hot Florida weather. I made sure to make my fast passes for after 7 pm to be able to enjoy the park before the party.
A downside of the party is that the regular Magic Kingdom guests are allowed to get in line for rides right up to the official park close, so the lines were really long for the first half-hour of the event until those guests cleared the rides and left the park. Don't worry, Disney has a lot of practice at separate events now, so they strategically place cast members at intersections and check for the wrist band that you will need to stay in the park. I used the opportunity to enjoy my free snack and drink at the start of the party while I waited for the lines to go down. On the topic of free snacks and beverages, basically the ice cream novelties and bottled soda and water that you would normally purchase in the park from carts along with boxed popcorn are free. There was no limit to the number of snacks and drinks that you can have!

Overall Thoughts On Villians Night
We love Disney Worlds After Hour event. They give you a chance to run around in some really empty theme parks, it's nice to enjoy the parks every once awhile without the wall to wall crowds that have become a typical scene over the years. It's definitely categorized in the splurge area since the price of the party is that of nearly a one-day park ticket for only a fraction of the hours. However, due to the low crowds, we love all you can accomplish in such a short amount of time.

I have been visiting the parks annually since my parents first brought me at just a year old. Recently I was able to fulfill my life long dream of being a Florida local and moved from the wintery Northeast to the sunshine and fun of central Florida. Now I am hoping to share my Disney knowledge with you so you can have the best vacation possible!
