You can find the entrance to Skipper Canteen in Adventureland at the Magic Kingdom. It’s nestled right after Sunshine Tree Terrace and across from the Swiss Family Treehouse. While it is close to Jungle Cruise is it NOT located directly next to it.
While you are more than welcome to wait in the shaded area outside the restaurant we recommend heading to the inside lobby to look at the treasures and enjoy the air conditioning.
Here in the lobby, you can look at these two portraits. It is showing the original founder of the restaurant Jungle Cruise’s Dr. Albert Falls. On the right is Alberta Fall who took over the business from her grandfather.
Above is a look at the main dining room. You can be seated in one of three curiously quirky rooms. First up is the crew’s colonial-era Mess Hall (which is not messy at all, thank you very much). Next is the Jungle Room, the former family parlor of Dr. Albert Falls himself. Lastly is the S.E.A. Room, a once-secret meeting place for the Society of Explorers and Adventurers!
As a lover of all things Jungle Cruise I had to point out the adorable coasters here. My waiter noticed me admiring them and I even got an extra clean one to take home.
Food Items at Skipper Canteen
Here is a look at the dishes we have tried so far from Skipper Canteen.
Pao de Queijo
This is an item on the secret menu. You have to ask or sometime the waiters will mention it as a special offering that day. It’s a gluten-friendly cheese bread served with chimichurri cream cheese sauce. To me, the sauce is what makes this dish. If you already know you are a fan of pao de queijo then this is a must-get starter item.
“Tastes like Chicken” Because it is!
Our waiter informed us that this is the most popular dish here at Jungle Navigation Skipper Canteen. It’s a Crispy-fried Chicken with Sweet Chili Glaze, Stir-fried Vegetables, and Jasmine Rice. Since I was avoiding spicy things she had the sauce served on the side since she said on occasion people complain it’s spicy. I didn’t find it spicy at all and happily dunked my chicken in. It adds a lot more flavor to the dish.
Irrawaddy Irma’s Hanger Steak
This dish is a Ginger and Soy-marinated Sliced Hanger Steak served with Garlic Rice, Frisée, and Pickled Onions. While this is a good-sized serving of steak we wished there were more vegetables or some other side that came with it. It could just be how it got plated that day but even my cheaper chicken dish came with more rice than the more expensive steak.
Kungaloosh!
This is an African-inspired Chocolate Cake with Caramelized Bananas served with Cashew-Caramel Ice Cream topped with Coffee Dust. This dessert fell pretty flat with me. The cake was served cold and it was thick it reminded me of those chewy brownies in a cup you can often find at quick service locations. The cashew caramel ice and the bananas were an actual joy to have. In the future, I will probably skip the dessert course here.
Pros and Cons of Eating at Skipper Canteen
Pros
- If you are a Jungle Cruise fan this is a must-do.
- You learn some fantastic Dad Jokes throughout the meal as your waiter and even the runners entertain you.
- Overs flavorful alternatives to standard theme park fare.
- Indoor-only dining; it’s a great space to cool off midday.
Cons
- Not for picky eaters, a pretty adventurous menu here.
- It’s not a fast experience, while we were in and out in about an hour, it does get busy and it will take much longer compared to a quick service spot.

Overall Thoughts on Jungle Navigation Skipper Canteen
As a huge Jungle Cruise fan, I couldn’t have been more pleased with my experience here. I got to hear funny jokes from our waitress, a couple we even hadn’t heard before too! When we first ate here I wasn’t thrilled with the menu everything I tried at the time was spicier than I could handle, this time it was a perfect balance. It seems to be choosing the right menu items is essential here. I chatted a bunch with our waitress and she helped so much on which direction to go.
