Disney Movie Insiders

Disney Movie Insiders

It’s Friday night. You head out to the movies to watch the latest Disney/Pixar/Marvel film or decide to order in and watch it from the comfort of your couch. While this activity is enjoyable as is, did you know that you can actually get rewarded for watching your favorite Disney movies? This magnificent program is called Disney Movie Insiders and in today’s article, we explain how it works, how you can earn points, what you can buy with them and everything in between.

What is Disney Movie Insiders?

First and foremost – what exactly is Disney Movie Insiders? Disney Movie Insiders connects fans of Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel studios and allows them to earn and redeem rewards for watching their favorite movies, either at a movie theater or from the comfort of their own home. This program was formerly known as Disney Movie Rewards, which has been around since 2006. News of this program’s rebranding was officially announced at the D23 Expo back in 2019.

Not too long after the announcement was made at D23, the Disney Movie Insiders app was supposed to become available to the public on September 26, 2019, however, it didn’t officially get rolled out until October due to technical difficulties.

Is Disney Movie Insiders Free?

Yes, it’s free to join Disney Movie Insiders, however, you will be required to purchase your favorite films in order to earn points and redeem rewards. The Disney Movie Insiders App is also free to download and use. This app is available for download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.

How Do You Get Disney Movie Insiders Points?

Once you are a member of Disney Movie Insiders, you can earn points in three different ways:

  • Watching movies
  • Enrolling and linking your movie accounts
  • Purchasing your favorite Disney films

We’ve provided an overview of each of these methods, including how they work below:

Earn Points By Watching Movies

First, you can earn points by purchasing tickets for eligible movie titles. This list of eligible titles are available on the website. Members will earn 100 points per standard movie ticket and 150 points for select movie tickets. Typically, you will earn 150 points with new releases. You can even plan ahead, as the website will let you know what movies will be available soon.

When you log on to the website, click on “Get Tickets” in the upper right hand corner. Once you click on this button, it will bring up the newest releases. We’ve provided a screenshot of this below:

After you click on the title you’re interested in, it will bring up facts about that movie. Before purchasing, you have the option of watching a trailer beforehand as seen below:

Disney Movie Insiders 6

When you’re on this screen, go to where it says “Find Theaters & Showtimes.” Next to this, you’ll have the option to select the date you want to watch this movie. You’ll be required to enter your zip code to see what movie theaters are available near you.

Once you select your movie theater and showtime, it will take you to that theater’s website. This means that you will be leaving the Disney Movie Insiders website, as the two are not affiliated. So, if you run into any issues with your tickets after this point, Disney Movie Insiders will not be responsible.

When you get your tickets, you’ll be able to scan them and enter the codes onto the Disney Movie Insiders website. To enter your code, visit the Disney Movie Insiders website and click on where it says “Enter Code” in the upper right hand corner and follow the instructions.

Disney Movie Insiders 7

If you’re using the app, click on the square with the plus icon located on the bottom right corner and select the “Enter Code” tab.

If you want to upload your tickets, please note that your movie showtime must be within 14 days in order to be eligible to earn points. All images will be reviewed by an employee upon upload.

How Many Points Are Codes Worth?

On average, codes on eligible movie titles are worth anywhere from 75-200 points.

Earn Points by Enrolling and Linking Your Movie Accounts

If you have a Disney Movie Club, Movies Anywhere or Regal, Atom or Fandango account, you can link your account to Disney Movie Insiders to earn points on the films you watch. If you’re unfamiliar with these different movie accounts, we provide a helpful overview of each of them below.

What is Movies Anywhere?

Movies Anywhere allows you to have access to your favorite movies all in one place. It’s also completely free to join. To connect your Disney Movie Insiders account with your Movies Anywhere account, it’s recommended that you use the same email address listed on both accounts. If you have a Disney Movie Insiders account but want to register for Movies Anywhere, all you need to do is register with the email address you have on file with Disney Movie Insiders. During this registration process, you have the option of transferring all of your Disney movies over to this new account.

Disney Movie Insiders members will automatically receive 25 points for connecting to the Movies Anywhere account for the first time. Your points will be rewarded to you after the accounts have successfully been linked.

What is the Disney Movie Club?

Like its name suggests, the Disney Movie Club is a membership program that allows you to purchase Disney films at a discounted rate. For example, the website is currently offering five Disney films for a $1 plus free shipping when you join, HOWEVER, there is a catch. Each member will be contractually obligated to purchase at least 5 movies at their regular club price (starting at 19.95 per DVD and $29.95 per Blu-ray) plus shipping during their first 24 months.

Members who sign up for the Disney Movie Club will receive 500 Disney Movie Insider points via email.

Regal/Atom/Fandango

These movie accounts are linked together here because they all serve a similar purpose. The Regal Crown Club Program is free to join; members are able to earn 100 credits for every dollar they spend on movie tickets and/or concessions.

Fandango and Atom work similarly, allowing users to easily find and purchase tickets for new movie releases at local theaters. All three of these accounts require users to become a member, so you would login to your account directly from your Disney Movie Insiders account.

To link your account, click on “Link Account” on the upper right hand corner. This will bring you to your dashboard where you can easily login and link to any of the existing accounts mentioned above. Below, is an example of what the landing page will look like:

Disney Movie Insiders 9How Do I Redeem My Disney Movie Rewards?

To redeem your rewards, click on the word “Redeem” on the upper left hand corner. This will bring you to the rewards page where you can browse everything that’s available. Once you’ve chosen your reward, click on “Redeem Now.” Once you click on this, you will be brought to a confirmation screen to make sure that you’re ordering the correct item. An example of this confirmation page is seen below:

Disney Movie Insiders 10

Click on the word “Confirm.” Once your redemption is successful, it will bring you to your account page where you’ll be able to not only see your reward but your point history and settings tab, as well.

In this example, I downloaded an Avengers-inspired digital wallpaper (assemble!) To access my wallpaper, I’ll click on “View Details” and then “Download” where it will ask me to save a copy of my download to my desktop.

Disney Movie Insiders 11

If you are doing this through the app, it will give you the option to save the photo to your image library.

But what about physical rewards such as Funko pops or movies? Once you’ve redeemed your points for a tangible reward, they will be sent to the mailing address you have on file and arrive to you (usually) between 2-4 weeks. If tracking on your item is available, it’ll be automatically listed in the “My Rewards” section of your account. Please note that you will not have to pay for shipping as shipping costs are calculated in the redemption cost.

For digital downloads, such as e-gift cards, they will be available to you immediately via your Member Account portal.

Can I Return My Reward?

Yes, you can. Once you submit a request to return your reward, you have 14 days from the time you receive the return shipment ticket to send the item back. Your reward points will be refunded back to you once the item has been received by the fulfillment department.

Do Disney Movie Insider Points Expire?

Yes, they do. If you do not earn or redeem any points after 365 consecutive days, then your existing points will expire. To avoid this, members are encouraged to earn or redeem points at least once a year in order to keep their accounts up to date.

Please note that as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, the team at Disney Movie Insiders have temporarily suspended the points expiration system. While they have not announced a reinstatement date as of yet, members will most likely be notified via email when this will go back to the way it was previously.

What Are the Perks of Joining Disney Movie Insiders?

Members will have access to new rewards and offers every Wednesday at 9:00am PST in what’s called Wednesday Wins. There is also usually a code of the week to receive bonus points. Furthermore, members will be able to earn double points for purchasing certain titles.

The coolest perk, in my opinion, is that you can get an insider’s look into the making of one of Disney’s films, both new and old. These podcasts feature interviews with the filmmakers and actors and give a behind-the-scenes look at how the movie was made and everyone’s experience working on it.

If I Already Have Disney+, Is It Worth Joining Disney Movie Insiders?

The short answer to this: it depends.

Ever since Disney+ came out in November of 2019, many people have been wondering whether or not it still makes sense to have a Disney Movie Insiders account since the movies they’ll eventually want to watch will be available on the subscription service at some point down the line anyway. While this is certainly understandable, it may be worth joining Disney Movie Insiders if you have Premier Access included in your Disney+ subscription.

What is Premier Access on Disney+?

Members can earn a larger amount of points – typically around 300 – if they have Premier Access included in their their Disney+ subscription. With Premier Access, members will be able to watch new movie releases the same time they are available in theaters, which is usually a few months or so before they will become available to watch on Disney+. This subscription costs $29.99 for US residents, whereas a basic subscription to the service costs $7.99 a month.

So, if you have Premier Access and want to earn points, all you’d have to do is login to your Disney Movie Insiders account and either upload a photo of your tickets or your purchase confirmation email for review. Once approved, you will automatically see the points deposited in your account.

Negative Reviews From Members

One of the biggest complaints from Disney Movie Insiders members is that they will often receive a message saying that the codes they entered don’t work. Understandably, with this being one of the main ways members can earn points, this has caused a lot of frustration in the Disney Movie Insiders community.

Disney Movie Insiders has responded to this frustration on their website and provided a helpful FAQ for if or when you encounter this problem on their website or app. Per their website, they recommend being on the lookout for swapped characters such as capital “O” and zero and the letter “I” and numeral one and verifying that these characters aren’t used accidentally. However, if you are still receiving an error code despite this verification, they request you contact them directly for assistance.

How Do I Contact Disney Movie Insiders?

If you have a question or are running into an issue using the Disney Movie Insiders program, the website has a helpful FAQ listed at the bottom of their website. In this FAQ section, they provide answers to commonly asked questions such as why you can’t login to your account and what to do if you receive an error message when entering a code like mentioned above. You can access their FAQ here.

If you still need help, you can get in contact with a representative via chat or email. Live support is available to customers Monday-Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm pacific standard time (PST). If you are outside of this window, I recommend sending them an email and following back up with them during business hours.

Final Thoughts

So where do we land on Disney Movie Insiders? Is it worth it? Honestly, it’s going to depend on what you want to get for your money and what works best with your budget and lifestyle. Not everyone enjoys using or knows how to use subscription services like these and in some cases, people may simply prefer owning physical copies of movies. In this case, getting access to behind-the-scenes interviews and other types of rewards for buying something you would have purchased anyway certainly has its perks. It’s also an exciting thing for young children to have a present coming to them in the mail every few months.

On the other hand, if you’re already paying for Disney+ and aren’t necessarily itching to watch movies as soon as they hit theaters, then joining this service might not be for you. Even though you can redeem cool prizes such as comic books, DVDs and Funko pops, you’re going to be paying a lot more money for them than you would if you purchased one in a store or even on a site such as Amazon. As we mentioned earlier, Funko pops, for example, cost 750 reward points — that’s at minimum seven standard movie tickets you’d have to buy in order to redeem this one product. Even though some Funko pops may be difficult to get your hands on, they typically sell for retail under $20. If you’re redeeming them through Disney Movie Insiders, you’re going to be paying much, much more.

This, of course, is just one example and we’re definitely not advocating for or against Disney Movie Insiders one way or the other. But we do want to be realistic and inform you as best we can so you and your family can make an informed decision. Disney Movie Insiders does offer some truly wonderful perks and if you’re a Disney movie fiend who is going to get your money’s worth, then this is a fun program you and your family will enjoy. Here, at WDW Vacation Tips, we’re big advocates for bringing the magic of Disney into the home – especially now during a time when visiting the parks may not be possible. As such, this program certainly meets those demands.

Whether you’re deciding to join this club, sign up for a subscription service or purchase tickets to the parks, you have to do what works best for your budget and lifestyle.
