Sanaa Dining Review: African and Indian Cuisine at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge

Sanaa Dining Review: African and Indian Cuisine at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge

Sanaa is an African-inspired restaurant with Indian flavors tucked inside Kidani Village at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, and over the years it has quietly become one of the most beloved dining spots on Disney World property. It serves up genuinely adventurous and savory food, boasts stunning Sunset Savanna views of real African wildlife right outside the windows, and it has a little something called the Indian-Style Bread Service that keeps people drooling and coming back trip after trip. Sanaa is well out of the way of the normal Disney hustle and bustle, tucked back in this already peaceful corner of the Animal Kingdom Lodge resort. That remoteness is part of what makes it so special. So let's take a deep dive into our full Sanaa dining review.

If you have ever looked at the Sanaa menu and felt a little intimidated by some of the descriptions, you are not alone. The food is adventurous, and it can feel a bit mysterious when you are not sure what you are going to get. But do not let that deter you. Talk to your server. They will genuinely guide you through the best options for your specific taste and spice tolerance. I personally do not get along with spicy food, and I have always been able to find plenty of delicious non-spicy options every single time I have visited.

Where Is Sanaa and How Do You Get There?

The exterior of Sanaa at Kadani Village

Finding Sanaa requires a little bit of navigation, which honestly just adds to the adventure. You need to head to Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas at Kidani Village, which is the Disney Vacation Club portion of Animal Kingdom Lodge. Kidani Village has its own separate lobby from the main Jambo House building, though the two are connected. Important note: you do not need to be a DVC member or staying at Kidani Village to dine at Sanaa. Anyone can make a reservation and eat here.

If you are driving, you can either park at Jambo House and walk over to Kidani Village via the pathway connecting the two buildings, or park directly at Kidani Village. Just ask at the guardhouse for directions if you are unsure, the Cast Members are very helpful. Once you are inside Kidani's lobby, walk all the way to the back where you will find a staircase. Head down to the bottom of that staircase and Sanaa will be right there in front of you.

One tip that seasoned Sanaa visitors swear by: arrive early. The Sunset Savanna at Kidani Village has rocking chairs and an outdoor overlook, and you will often find animal specialists stationed there ready to point out animals and answer questions. Spending even 20 to 30 minutes out there before your reservation watching the zebras, giraffes, and gazelles go about their evening is genuinely one of the best pre-dinner experiences at any Disney World restaurant.

The Atmosphere Inside Sanaa

Step inside and you feel immediately transported. Sanaa, which means "Work of Art" in Swahili, is designed to evoke a traditional East African spice market. Handcrafted wares, woven baskets, gourds, love note necklaces, and beaded geckos are displayed throughout, and beautiful lanterns are scattered around the dining room providing a warm, romantic glow. It's one of those restaurants where you genuinely want to slow down and look at everything around you.

The seating is arranged in two distinct areas. Tables closer to the front are positioned near the floor-to-ceiling arched windows that look directly out onto the Sunset Savanna, where you can watch over 200 birds and hoofed animals from more than 30 species roaming the landscape including gazelles, zebras, giraffes, kudu, ostriches, and cranes. Not every table will have a direct window view, so if savanna sightlines matter to you, it is worth mentioning it when you check in. Arriving a few minutes early can help you make your case for a good seat.

Tables set further back in the restaurant place you under what feels like an African tree canopy, with gorgeous overhead detail work that you absolutely must look up to appreciate. It is stunning in a different way and still feels completely immersive.

The overall vibe is romantic and a little intimate without being stuffy. It is wonderful for a date night or a special occasion, but it also works beautifully for families and groups. The adventurous menu actually becomes a fun conversation piece when you are dining with people who are willing to explore a little.

The Bread Service: The Reason Everyone Comes to Sanaa

Let's get right to it because there is no point in burying the lead. The Indian-Style Bread Service at Sanaa is one of the most talked-about menu items in all of Disney World, and it deserves every single bit of that reputation. It is consistently named among the best things you can
