Flying Fish Dining Review

Flying Fish Dining Review

Back in 2016, this restaurant went under a complete renovation and menu change. With the pandemic it saw almost a full two-year closure, reopening at the start of 2022. Flying Fish is an upscale restaurant located on Disney World’s Boardwalk. I had previously fallen in love with their classic dishes such as the strip steak and potato encrusted red snapper. Don’t worry these are still two of the best dishes on their menu! In celebration of our wedding anniversary, we decided to splurge and head back to the Flying Fish. Here is my Flying Fish Dining Review.

A quick warning before we get started the menu was different when we arrived compared to when we looked online. They have a seasonal menu and it does constantly change.

A Tour Around Flying Fish

You can get to Flying Fish by walking from the International Gateway at Epcot or parking at the Boardwalk Resort. It is located right on the Boardwalk directly next to the lobby of the resort.

A look inside Flying Fish.

The remodel brought us these stunning glassfish that are swimming from the ceiling. It went from a less serious tone of a Coney Island design to a very upscale modern seafood restaurant. The restaurant now has a distinct adult feel now.

The bar at Flying Fish

The bar area at Flying Fish is also beautifully decorated. Above the bar, the ceiling is lined with glass wine bottles that reflect the light and almost appear like fish scales from afar.

A peek into the kitchen at Flying Fish.

The Flying Fish actually has an open kitchen so you can watch in as they prepare everyone’s meals. It’s a treat to be seated near the kitchen. Throughout your meal, you can watch as the chefs work in harmony to whip out these delicious culinary delights.

2022 Flying Fish Menu

Flying Fish Dining Review 2

Here is a peek at the menu in 2022, shortly after Flying Fish reopened.

Flying Fish Dishes

The following are a few of the dishes we have tried from the menu at Flying Fish.

Bread from Flying Fish

In the past, they started us off with a basket of seaweed bread. It was a really great compliment to the food and you really couldn’t taste the seaweed.

Now we got a

Oak-grilled Romaine

Grilled Baby Romaine

We decided to start our meal with a salad which they happily split onto two plates for us. This salad included: Grilled Baby Romaine, Pecorino, Buttermilk Crème Fraîche Dressing, Olive Oil-marinated Vegetables. The salad was good, however, I wasn’t crazy about the dressing it had a lot of dill flavoring and that just isn’t my cup of tea.

Mesclun Greens Salad

Flying Fish Dining Review 4

Do NOT skip this salad, I was shocked how much I ended up loving this salad. But then again with goat cheese how could you not fall in love with this salad. This salad is comprised of, Chèvre (the goat cheese with nuts encrusted around it served warm and melty), Marcona Almonds, Watermelon Radish and topped with a Blueberry Vinaigrette.

Filet Mignon

Flying Fish Dining Review 5

A classic cut of meat it’s hard to go wrong when you order the Filet Mignon. The steak comes paired with Asparagus, Sweet Onion Risotto, and Truffle Sauce. It was a thumbs up and a definitely a dish we plan on getting again.

Snake River Farms Wagyu Strip Loin

Flying Fish Dining Review 6

We were shocked at how large this steak was when it came out and while it’s hard to tell with the picture it came with its fair share of a side of veggies. My husband enjoyed his steak. He commented that it melted in his mouth and also that it was lightly seasoned.

Buttermilk Marinated Green Circle Chicken

Buttermilk marinated green circle kitchen.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this dish, it comes with a popcorn topping! It as great, the chicken was tender and it had lots of flavoring. I just wasn’t feeling up for fish this evening so that’s how I ended up with the chicken at the fish restaurant.

Char-crusted New York Strip

Char-crusted New York Strip

If you dined at Flying Fish before their remodel you will be elated to hear their best dish is finally back! After many complaints and a brand new chef, the Char-crusted New York Strip is back to stay! This is honestly the best thing on the menu, which is kinda funny for a place that specializes in fish.

The image below is a look at the dish when we ordered in 2022. The New York Strip comes paired with Mille-Feuille Potato Gratin, Cauliflower Colors, and Béarnaise Sauce. The potato stack on the right was an amazing thinly sliced potatoes all mixed with a delightful cream sauce. The outside was all nice and crispy, definitely my favorite part of potato gratin.

Anniversary Dessert

Flying Fish Dining Review 8

Since we were celebrating our first wedding anniversary that evening they brought out this adorable dessert to our table. It was a chocolate mousse and chocolate sponge cake topped with sea salt.

Cocoa Breach

Flying Fish Dining Review 9

This dessert was a Vanilla Custard, Chocolate Bavarois, Feuillentine Crunch. It was very rich and it’s definitely a dessert best shared.

  • Women must wear Capri pants, skirts, dresses or dress shorts. Jeans may be worn if in good condition.

Flying Fish Recommendation

The atmosphere here was perfect for celebrating our anniversary! It’s a cozy restaurant and the staff here goes above and beyond to make sure you have a perfect meal as well as take the time to get to know you. This location we felt was very pricey but considering the amount of food it wasn’t as crazy overpriced as we thought. This stop we feel is best left for those special occasions and not for those who are on the Disney Dining Plan.
